Week 48 - Lucy Bevin Art
52 Week Challenge, Week 48 – The Uncanny Home by Lucy Bevin
This week my images come from an exhibition – “Alt-terior” - recently held at the James Hockey Gallery at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham.
The exhibition included work from 14 artists created from the artists’ own experiences, both imagined and actual, during a time unlike anything most have lived through before.
I feature the work of Lucy Bevin, whose presentation – The Uncanny Home (Two Walls Left Standing) – is part of the final piece created in attaining her MA in Fine Art at the University.
Lucy says…
“My current work incorporates film, sculpture, drawing and installation.”
“The work explores our relationship and emotional response to the rooms, objects, events and memory of place and the concept of home.”
“It examines the way in which the function of the home can change due to its temporal nature and fragile boundaries and also how the house as object becomes a part of self and self a part of the object. A second skin.”
“The unending quality of the home allows it a certain potency because of the accumulated histories of its inhabitants whose traces are left within its walls.”
